Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

May also want to see if you can invest in some sort of magical weapon, or something to fend off magic. A gun and a combat knife won't get you far against someone who can throw a sun at you.

[Aka Ikki's captain. Actually a gun and a combat knife hardly even works against Ikki himself, and there are far worse people around this world.]

Right... I have the first clue about magic. Any suggestions, Mr...?

[Oh hey, he doesn't know your name]

Phoenix Ikki. And I don't really have any suggestions other than ask the store if there's anything generic enough. A lot of us have some type of magic or power that would cause you trouble if we become enemies, but they are too varied and different to make it easy to just pick something and be well protected.

[It's not a threat, of course. Ikki has no interest or intention of making enemies with this guy, but no one knows the future and if for whatever reason Ace makes enemies with this guy's crew or the guy himself... Ikki will fight. Warning him and suggesting him to find ways to protect himself is as much kindness as Ikki will spare about this based on their shared circumstances of being trapped here.]

Though maybe you will be able to get something if you focus on something that can protect you from a physical attack and something for mental attacks.

[He'd like to come up with a witty retort, but he can't find one]

I suppose I'll look around, then. Thank you. [A pause] My name is Leon if it's of any interest to you. Leon S. Kennedy.

[Ikki didn't ask, not because of lack of interest but because... He honestly forgets. Several months here and he still isn't really into social interaction. Most of his conversations back home were with people he was about to beat and usually they liked to announce their names by themselves so asking has never been something he had to do.]

Leon...

[There's a soft sound almost like an amused laugh, not at the name but at what it evokes. It's one of those chains that end with him remembering his world, what's not there anymore, what's left... And how he's not there to make sure that those things stay where they are.]

I don't suppose you would be American, huh?

[feewaytoogood]

[The laugh is a bit strange, but Leon ignores it; it doesn't seem like he's being laughed at, after all]

I would. You from America?

No, from Japan. It's just that with so many people from other worlds around here, even if a name seems to come from one country they may have never heard of said country before. It's always kind of nice to know that someone comes from a world I can imagine easily.

[feewaytoogood]

I suppose it would be. Still weird to think of alternate worlds and completely different worlds.

[uccellodifuoco]

You'll get used to it, unfortunately. Just wait until people you know appear but remember things differently than you. Or even better, when people you don't know arrive and know you better than your mother.

[feewaytoogood]

That last doesn't startle me, so much as unnerve me. I'm very used to people seeming to know more than they should about me.

[uccellodifuoco]

Even your own child?

[There's some amusement in his voice, though Ikki grants that most people, him included, would just refuse to accept that someone is their future kid. Because that's way too crazy even for this place.]

I don't have kids.

[uccellodifuoco]

[Ikki laughs, it was an answer he expected.]

Time is a funny thing here. Just as people from different worlds and dimensions come here, people from different times come as well. You could meet your mother when she was your current age, or future kids or grandchildren.

[feewaytoogood]

I doubt I'll have kids, ever. As for the rest... Well, I got nothing.

Who knows, the way things are I won't be surprised if people come being from our worlds, but from actual different versions of them. Heck, chances are that has happened already.

There are some teens in my crew who know someone else from their world since they were little, but that person didn't know them neither ever met them despite being almost an adult. And they know her as having parents and living on some islands, but she was an orphan who never met her parents neither was ever adopted as far as she's concerned. Same person, different lives.
