Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[A: There's an almost elven looking girl in a red cloak, hanging around the town and warily trying to get directions in as polite of a tone as possible.]

Excuse me? [People just keep walking...]

Excuse me? [No good.]

[Then she spots you.] Excuse me? Can you tell me where we are? It's a long story, but I think I must have bumped my head.

[B: Later down by one of the very out of the way beaches, there's a freaking pinkish dragon laughing, doing loop de loops and roasting piles of fishes before throwing entire boulders or logs into the water.]

Ahahahaha! Take that! WEE!

[C: The manakete comes flying back with a quick happy roar.]

I found an island over there guys and it looks really fun!

[One log hits something that is very much NOT water, from the audible THUMP it makes. Dougen rises up out of the water, rubbing his head as he looks up.]

I'm going to have to ask that you're a bit more careful, friend. I'm diving for large lobsters.

[justsay]

[OH HOLY SHIT IT'S A PERSON.]

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! I didn't see you in there!

[She's usually so careful too! She looked for people just in case, and everything!]

[Her ears droop instantly and she flies down a little closer to the surface.]

Are you all right?

[Also... a tiger?]

[tofu_tiger]

Ha ha ha ha ha! I'm quite alright, quite alright. I've taken harder hits to the head, I assure you. Not like I expected you to see me under the water.

[He walks up on shore, dragging a large net full of crustaceans.]

These will make wonderful dinner for me and my comrade.

[justsay]

Whoa! That's a lot of lobster!

[Flies over to shore since her time is almost up and switches back to a little girl.] All this just for you and your friend?

[tofu_tiger]

Well, I do have a larger body to support. I'll certainly be eating the larger share of them. My friend is a girl not much larger than yourself.

[He blinks as he looks her over for a moment, somewhat confused.]

Wait, weren't you just another sort of animal?

[justsay]

Eh, really?

[Her ears perk with interest and then she gives a firm nod.] Mm! I'm a manakete!

[Not something she'd brag about normally, but nothing about this situation is normal.]

[tofu_tiger]

...A what? I'm afraid I don't know this terms. I've had to learn many terms, since coming here.

[justsay]

[A shrug!]

It's what I am. There's a long manakete history descended from the long line of dragons and we can listen to Naga.

Um... usually. I can't really hear her here.

What about you?

[tofu_tiger]

I'm afraid all of those are creatures I don't know of, as well.

[justsay]

Naga's a goddess.

Well, sort of. She says she's not, but she's leader of the divine dragons.

[tofu_tiger]

Ah, I've heard that term from different humans. Gods and goddesses and spirits and such. It's a bit difficult to imagine. Animals don't have anything like that.

Most of us tend to live more in the present. There used to not be much to our lives besides eating or trying not to be eaten.

[justsay]

Did that change?

[tofu_tiger]

Tarouza has been trying to change that world so that animals can live in peace together.

[justsay]

Is that possible?

[tofu_tiger]

It seems to be. Before they went extinct, humans designed a special fruit that grows quickly, and that all animals can digest properly and enjoy the taste of. Then all he has to do is find a way for us all to speak the same language.

[justsay]

Humans went extinct?

[A blink.] What language are we speaking now?

[tofu_tiger]

As far as I know. The handful that exist were brought from another time.

Well, Tarouza was a human who could speak every animal language. All I know is that you all understand me, which I didn't think would happen.

[justsay]

Oh, I see. That's kind of what happened with me and my friends. Except we went back in time instead of into the future.

[She nods slowly.] So maybe he found a way to make it work after all?

[tofu_tiger]

I trust he will, even though I won't be alive to see it.

[justsay]

Why not?

[tofu_tiger]

I came here when I fell in battle.

You died?

[tofu_tiger]

Yes. I doubt recovery was an option, with the shape my body was in.

I'm sorry. That's why we went to the past, to try to save our parents.
