Test Drive for July 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

[the irony is that she's pretty tiny herself...]

Yeah! I used to live in Wolfscchlucht before — it's a village in Germany — and I wasn't allowed to leave, but I always wanted to see the world outside. Before I came here, I'd never seen the ocean before!

But now that we've sailed around for a while, I'm really tired of the ocean... I want to explore the islands like everyone else, but I'm always stuck on the ship whenever there aren't established roads.

[solokun]

Germany, huh?

[Listening to her speak makes his smirk soften a little. She does remind him of Suguha in a way, and since he feels so guilty for being a horrible big brother, maybe this is sort of a way to make up for that.]

RPG heroes never leave kids behind, so I guess I could babysit for a day.

[His smirk is back as he turns around and scoots closer to let her hop on his back.]

[witcraft]

RPG...? I don't need to be taken care of! I just need someone to help me move around.

[she's not particularly heavy, though she has to hitch up her long dress to be carried properly] Tell me if you need a rest, okay? I don't want you to suddenly drop me.

[solokun]

[Kirito lets her get comfortable and hooks his arms under her legs to keep her from slipping off or anything like that. Then he stands up.]

If I drop you I probably won't notice. You're really light. Ready? Here we go.

[That's all the warning she gets before he takes off down the gangplank, onto the island, and down a rough path all at a speed quick enough to have dust flying up around them.]

[witcraft]

[squeaks in surprise, clinging to his shoulders for dear life as she bounces along like a sack of potatoes]

Aaaaaaaaahhhhslowdownslowdownslowdown — !!

[solokun]

[After they're out of sight of the ocean and the ship, he finally does slow down to the point that they're just walking.]

Still back there? Hey, does Sieglinde-san have any requests on what she'd like to see today?

[witcraft]

[her voice still high-pitched and panicky] I don't know! We were going so fast I didn't see anything!

Uh... hmm. [calming down a little, taking a look around] Well... beaches are pretty, but I see them all the time from the ship... and we had lots of forests back home. [then she lights up] Do you think this island has any caves?

[solokun]

[Kirito glances around as well. It looks like a mountainous zone.]

Places like this always have caves.

[Then he glances over his shoulder at her.]

Aren't kids your age scared of the dark?

[witcraft]

Hmph! Maybe an ordinary child would be... but I'm a witch. Darkness is my specialty.

...and candles burnt out rather quickly in the manor I lived in, so it'd get dark all the time. [right, of course...]

[solokun]

Creepy.

[Have a raised eyebrow and nothing else.]

[witcraft]

Why, are you afraid of the dark? [peering at him curiously over his shoulder]

There's nothing bad about it! Night is for nice fluffy things, like bats and owls. Only werewolves and bears are really dangerous.

[solokun]

Ehhh, I've never heard someone say a bat was fluffy.

[Then another look.]

Are you really a witch?

[witcraft]

Of course! But I'm a traditional witch, not the kind that curses people or summons demons.

Real witches weren't evil, you know? That was just something the Church made up. We're supposed to heal people and cast spells for good luck and things like that.

[solokun]

Ah, admittedly I don't know too much about all that. I just know witches from video games I've played.

[On second glance, she does sort of fit the typical little witch class from JRPGs he's familiar with.]

So you can't do hexes or like... throw a fireball?

[witcraft]

Of course not! Can anybody? [but anything seems to be possible here, so...]

Maybe if I sold my soul or something like that...

[solokun]

That sounds a little dark too.

[Look, there's a cave.]

Speaking of--how's this one?

[witcraft]

Ooh... that looks promising. [it's not exactly a grand, gaping entrance — more like a little hole in a cliff — but it's big enough for the both of them to enter, and anyway, it's not like she's seen others (outside of crude illustrations in storybooks) with which she can compare]

I wonder if there'll be treasure — or crystals? [getting ahead of herself, there] Ah — b-but just a regular cave full of rocks will be interesting too! Maybe there'll be some interesting plants inside...

[solokun]

It looks pretty boring.

[Coming from his own experience exploring all sorts of ruins and temples and such. Even so, it's the first one they find, so maybe they should explore.]

Alright, let's go. I'm banking on some treasure myself.

[He shifts her in his grip again, bouncing her further up his back since she'd slipped down a little. Then he moves carefully to the entrance and goes very slowly so his eyes can adjust to the darkness.]

[witcraft]

[her eyes adjust surprisingly fast as she looks around and gasps in surprise, pointing at a stalactite formation]

Kirito! Kirito, look, it's like the rocks are dripping!

[solokun]

Yeah, that's how they're formed. Something with the water leaving behind sediment.

[Just a random tidbit he picked up from school. Stuff like that seemed to be harder and harder to recall since he doesn't have to really use it anymore. The only things important nowadays are surviving.]

Woops, watch your head.

[And he ducks a little to move under large root going through the middle of the passage.]

[witcraft]

Oooh... [ducking low as he indicates, though she's still glancing around with wonder]

Is that how the ones from the ground are made too?

[solokun]

Mm, I think so. The water drips down and evaporates, leaving behind bits of dirt and rock that build up over time.

[Yeah, that should be it. Even if he was a very smart kid, he didn't really pay much attention in school. Games were more interesting.]

Maybe we'll get lucky and find some crystals like you wanted.

[witcraft]

If we do, we should take some with us! Crystals can be very powerful in witchcraft.

Like... [considers the possibilities for a moment] I could turn one into a charm to protect you!

[solokun]

[That's actually not a bad idea. He's used to crystal helping out and all since they were healing items and such in Sword Art Online.].

A charm, huh? I guess an extra accessory wouldn't hurt. Not like I have a limited inventory now.

[witcraft]

Yeah! I can make all sorts, but it depends on what crystals we find. Like, jaspers are good for energy and that sort of thing. [thinks it over a moment] Hmm, I bet obsidian would be good for you. Obsidian and... silver.
