See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!
♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?
Parker - Leverage
Heeeere birdy birdy birdy.
[There is a lean blonde with her hair tied back running up the rigging of the ship like it's her job. Harnesses? Who needs a harness? She goes, rung by rung of the rope.]
Kiiiiiiidd. Kiddy Kidd Kiiiiidd.
C'mere you ball of feathers before I wring your neck.
[She's chasing a bright macaw that has settled itself on the topmost yardarm of the mainmast.
The height? Doesn't bother her in the slightest.]
2.
[Well, that was a nasty, hasty retreat the crew made, now wasn't it?
All of a sudden, the local government had been on a witchhunt, questioning outsiders and natives alike, searching homes and ships, looking for the wedding ring of the governor's wife. It was, apparently, a priceless family heirloom made of gold and sapphires.
And on the ship, not two days later, Parker can be found in her little corner of the crew quarters she claimed, sitting on the trunk no one else is allowed to touch, admiring a ring, examining it by candlelight.
After a moment, she frowns a bit.]
They're not even real sapphires.
3.
[If she's going to be a pirate, she's going to do it right.
So while the others on her crew have been "getting supplies" (she can happily make due with crushed hardtack, a bit of sugar, and maybe some fruit slices if they're around), she's stayed near the shore.
The chest she brought with her (which has always remained locked and she barely let anyone else even touch) is missing. And her clothes are covered in dirt.]
So, can we go now? I'm bored.
2 - because i can
Possibly had a bad time at the bar at the last island? Regardless, when he stumbled past Parker and her ring - he stopped mid-step and walked backwards with a look that said: "I'm going to kill you" and "What the fuck?" ]
Is that.. the Ile Flonttant governess's ring?
no subject
[From one thief to another. Complete honesty.]
Look.
[And she throws the (warm) ring to him.]
All wrong.
[Not real gold, not real sapphires.
A good fake. Very convincing, even to a thief who knows what they're looking at. Until, of course, it's two inches from the face and in the ungloved palm.]
no subject
At the very least this? Was a fake. Wasn't worth much to him or her but - it was worth something to someone who'd believe it was legit.]
Well den. Cheap bastard.
[He tosses back the ring with a frustrated sigh.]
Kinda happy y'took dat off my hands.
no subject
[Cheery, almost sweet.
There's a bit of fun to be had with a fellow thief. Not her crew, which was too bad. They'd be having a lot of fun.
But someone to compete with just a bit?
That was good, too.]
So much fuss over a fake, though.
I don't get it.
no subject
Could be more important den a simple ring.
[...And then he has an idea.]
Maybe it's fo' somethin' bigger, eh?
[Like real booty.]
no subject
[Okay. Now, that? That sounds cool.
And has her examining the ring more closely. What would Nate look for?]
no subject
[Breaking back into an island that is definitely not accepting visitors or their specific ship back right now considering all their ports are closed - thinking that whoever broke in is still there.]
Dat'd be fun.
no subject
Could be a key.
Oh! The stones might come out! And if you arrange them just right? It opens a door!
[It works in the movies Hardison's made her watch.]
no subject
Then again they are all living in a magical pirate world where Davy Jones and magical jewels are a real thing.]
...S'not the craziest t'ing I ever heard.
no subject
[She's still looking at the ring. Very, very closely.]
Maybe there's just a bit of difference in the color. Like hex codes but... old... timey... stuff.
And the difference makes coordinates! To where the loot's buried!
no subject
[That's his thinking voice. Because if - if - that was possible solution.... There had to be several deciding factors included.]
D'ya even t'ink dey have any kind o'numerical or alphabetical hex code here? Dat's a pretty tall order dere.
no subject
[Duh.]
There has to be a way to distinguish when you're buying or selling. The quality, the shine, the size, the vibrancy of color. All of those make every gem unique.
And people who are going to make jewelry with multiple pieces of the same stone need a way to rate the color. For a consistent look.
[Or.]
It might even be the difference in color between them and real sapphires that's the code.
1.
P-perhaps if you asked more kindly, she would come of her own free will.
no subject
[It's said very simply. Quite matter-of-fact. Because, well, that's just generally how Parker talks.]
I requested.
Now, I'm threatening.
That usually works.
When asking doesn't.
But he's being stubborn.
Should've named him Eliot.
no subject
[Well as long as she tried asking nicely, Ornifex supposes threats are okay.]
May I ask why you are... p-pursuing this Eliot creature?
no subject
[Stubborn. Mouthy.]
Maybe Nate.
He's my pet. He's supposed to sit on my shoulder.
no subject
To be honest, Ornifex is a little disappointed.
V-very well. I will help you catch this beast.
[Yes, she knows that Parker didn't actually ask for help, but it's not like she's got much else to do.]
