Test Drive for November 2014 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for [community profile] high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

See you during the application round!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

Elder Kevin Price | The Book of Mormon

Town Square- Isle Empieza

It's Orlando. It's Disney World! It has to be! The cobblestone streets, the quaintly dressed people- they were hiding their employee badges quite well- he had to be in Adventureland, or Frontierland, or where-ever the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was. It had been so long, he barely remembered.

[A tall, impeccably-dressed teenager in a white dress shirt, tie, and black slacks is pondering passerby, a slightly strained smile on his face and a book tucked under his arm.]

Sir Crocodile | One Piece

[personal profile] grandlineswag 2014-10-27 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Town Square]

Crocodile takes a deep drag of his cigar, before blowing out a long plume of smoke. He's been down this road before, he knows it. Unlocked memories gradually start to filter in as he takes in the increasingly familiar scenery around the fountain.

"Damn it," he sighs, taking off in the direction of the market, "Not this ridiculous nonsense, again. Can't this place just leave me be, already?"

Most people clear out of his way, given that he's a broad, eight-foot-tall monster of a man. He stops at a local eater, angrily plunking down coins before grabbing some friend turkey to chew on. All he wanted was to explore the New World at his leisure, not get wrapped up here again.

"Right, then. To the docks, it is."

[Island Ruins]

"Where are we currently?" he barked back at his companion, "That map is supposed to track our location through some strange, likely magical means. Keep an eye on it. This place is built to confuse the unwary."

Every now and then he'd lash out with is hook, carving a mark on a pillar they had already passed by. All the better to keep track.

"Are you sure the information you acquired is trustworthy? If this is a false promise, I'll be quite put out."

Town Center - Fountain
[No matter how long Law scrutinizes the deteriorating statue in town, it doesn't seem to ring a bell; the details beneath her don't provide much for him in terms of insight, either. Nothing aside from a name and some sort of warning? It doesn't have a pleasant ring to it, but that's besides the point. Nothing here is familiar, and nothing in recent memory can substantiate why he'd find himself in a town he can't name.

He's going to stand around though, glowering between the mermaid, her fountain and his surroundings in general, looking much like the textbook definition of a wayward tourist. Combined with how unfriendly he looks and a distinct disinterest in flat out ASKING for insight, he'll be lucky if anyone stops to enlighten him.]

Inn/pub
[The path of least resistance appears to lead out to the harbor, but setting off without so much as a compass would be a Terrible Idea. Given how small the town is, one of the nosier attractions isn't so difficult to locate. Law has himself seated off to the side, trying to remain as invisible as possible, though he probably looks suspicious (or asleep) with his cap pulled low, arms crossed, negligent to indulge in anything the pub has to offer. It would be reckless to do anything like that, especially on an eavesdrop mission.

ESPECIALLY when it already feels like he's just woken up from a wild night?! Minus the headache and regret, double shots of confusion.]

Parker - Leverage

[personal profile] loveshertaser 2014-10-27 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
1.

Heeeere birdy birdy birdy.

[There is a lean blonde with her hair tied back running up the rigging of the ship like it's her job. Harnesses? Who needs a harness? She goes, rung by rung of the rope.]

Kiiiiiiidd. Kiddy Kidd Kiiiiidd.

C'mere you ball of feathers before I wring your neck.

[She's chasing a bright macaw that has settled itself on the topmost yardarm of the mainmast.

The height? Doesn't bother her in the slightest.]

2.

[Well, that was a nasty, hasty retreat the crew made, now wasn't it?

All of a sudden, the local government had been on a witchhunt, questioning outsiders and natives alike, searching homes and ships, looking for the wedding ring of the governor's wife. It was, apparently, a priceless family heirloom made of gold and sapphires.

And on the ship, not two days later, Parker can be found in her little corner of the crew quarters she claimed, sitting on the trunk no one else is allowed to touch, admiring a ring, examining it by candlelight.

After a moment, she frowns a bit.]

They're not even real sapphires.

3.

[If she's going to be a pirate, she's going to do it right.

So while the others on her crew have been "getting supplies" (she can happily make due with crushed hardtack, a bit of sugar, and maybe some fruit slices if they're around), she's stayed near the shore.

The chest she brought with her (which has always remained locked and she barely let anyone else even touch) is missing. And her clothes are covered in dirt.]

So, can we go now? I'm bored.
shiprekt: (He don't deserve no mercy)

Rider (Francis Drake) | Fate/Extra

[personal profile] shiprekt 2014-10-28 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[I]

[Truth be told, it didn't take Rider long at all to get the hang of things here. Piracy was her specialty after all, and from the looks of things it seemed experience on a boat was a rare thing here, let alone experience being a successful captain. Shouldn't be too difficult to snatch up a good crew and whip them into shape, she thinks. This place was even nice enough to provide her with some coin to buy a ship. Of course it wasn't nearly enough for her tastes.

Not that any measurable amount would be enough.

Maybe you were saving up to buy something really nice. Or maybe you wanted to grab a bite to eat. Whatever the case, not long after you pass by a rather striking woman in red, your pockets seem to feel a bit lighter than normal. Shame it's not hard to figure out just who done it when there's not many people around aside from the aforementioned woman.]

[II]

[It's been a few days since Rider first showed up in Empieza, but she doesn't seem too worried. A mental checklist of all the things she needs to do has been made, and so she sees no reason not to celebrate the completion of her hard work by stopping by the tavern for a large glass of booze. Or, you know, twelve. As a matter of fact she's even turned it into a contest and already drunk three poor souls under the table. It's quite the show.

Once she finishes her last mug, she slams it on the counter and lets out a cheerful sigh.]

Ahh...rum always tastes the best when you won a keg's worth. Shame none o' these poor losers held much of a chance. Any of you sadsacks out there think you can do better? Winner pays.

Marie "Rogue" D'Ancanto | X-Men movies

[personal profile] whatiwanted 2014-10-28 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
a)

You know, I always wanted to have an adventure when I was young.

[Marie writes in the journal on a particularly cool day. It has her, in its own way, a little nostalgic. Though it's not as cold as she's been through before.]

When I was a teenager, I was going to go on a roadtrip across Canada. Even almost talked my boyfriend into going with me.

That kind of fell through, so I did it alone. Hitchhiking, but same basic route. Only got about halfway through it when I had to go somewhere else.

[Things had gone very wrong. But she wouldn't go into that for now.]

Never expected something like this, though. Guess it's the old saying, huh? "Be careful what you wish for."

b)

[The supplies on these islands aren't what she's used to, but, well. You get stuck somewhere for two weeks after your boat sinks and you have to doggy-paddle to shore...

You make due.

So, she's made stew. Using the meat, spices, and vegetables she found around here. Which included a lot of tasting and experimentation, but.]

Think it turned out pretty good. Have a taste.

[It's said as she puts a bowl in front of her fellow strandee.]

c)

[There are so many little pleasures to enjoy. The way an apple's skin feels in her hand as she inspects it. The warmth of the sun on her wrist as the cool wind blows over her flesh, too.

She hadn't really had enough time at the Institute to enjoy this. To really get used to not wearing her gloves.

But she can do it here. Because here, she isn't Rogue. She isn't a mutant. The only strange thing about her is the white in her hair, but she has that rolled up in other pieces of hair and pulled back, as hidden as she could make it.

She can actually smile and have every reason to do it.

Just a bit of shopping before she leaves Empieza with the crew she's signed up with. Which still sounds so weird to her. And, well, maybe she can run into someone or two she can recruit. The more the merrier, right?

Besides, better to not be alone in a place like this, she figures.]

Edward Kenway | Assassin's Creed

[personal profile] stolenrobes 2014-10-28 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Town Square:

It isn't the first time Edward's woken up somewhere he didn't fall asleep at, or know entirely how he got there to begin with. That nobody he knew the face of was in the immediate area was only mildly concerning, he's got his clothes and his weapons and there's no new bleeding wounds that he can find so all in all it's not too bad.

First things first is finding his ship, then it's giving a bit of hell to whoever dragged him to a somewhat poorly looking fountain.

So he just strides on up to the nearest person looking his way with a bit of a grin, "Ey, you mind pointing a man towards the harbor? I seem to have been put to land prematurely."

On a Ship:

Despite his eccentricities, Edward does know his way around a ship backwards and forwards and likely upside down as well if pressed to perform as such. Even if he doesn't like working under someone else, he's not one to shirk duties or otherwise be of little use.

"Any of you lot know a song or two? Ain't right to have a ship sailing on a fine day and not be singin' yanno?" He speaks up, looking up from whatever it is he's busied his hands with.

Choose your own adventure?

Weaponsmith Ornifex | Dark Souls II

[personal profile] ornifex 2014-10-28 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Town Square]

O-oh my.

[A town full of humans isn't exactly where this crow demon wants to be. It's a massive change from her secluded hovel at the bottom of a spider-infested mining town.

Ornifex is no stranger to the occasional odd look from a curious adventurer, but there are so many humans here, and they all seem to be staring at her. She can't help but shy away.
]

Mmmmh. Pardon me. I do not wish to stay long. Could you be so kind as to show me to the exit?

[She doesn't need to go home per se. Anywhere more secluded and less bright will do her just fine.]

[Abandoned Island]

[Being shipwrecked wasn't so bad, when you get right down to it. It's nice to be useful to a crew and everything, but she can get so much work done by herself.

If another crew were to happen upon this small, deserted island, they'd find her sitting on the broken remains of a barrel, using the flame of a candle to shape a piece of scrap metal into a dagger. Her long, bony fingers warp the metal into a new form, with skill beyond any mortal blacksmith.

She barely looks up from her work as she's approached, absolutely enthralled by what she's doing.
