Test Drive for November 2013 Apps

Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for

high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! ♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

[...annnnnnd have a pretty girl?

Winry peers down at him, thinking this is getting to be too familiar, strange people showing up at the fountain. Well, like she had.]

Are you okay?

NO! [And then he sees just who's asking. The one thing he'll say for getting sucked into weird fantasy worlds where people want you to go on fetch quests and risk your ass for vague reasons is that apparently it means pretty girls will talk to him instead of getting scared away by his impenetrable Aura of Loser.]

I mean, um...no, not really. Not really at all. Where is this place? Please tell me it's somewhere near St. Piria or Jugglabark or Olvidia or dammit those are the only place names I remember why don't I pay attention...I'm, um, a Hyperion or whatever I have have Very Important Things to do...so...

[Maybe, just maybe it was just one of those "transported to the other side of the world" things where you just needed to get an airship or wait until you run into one of your party members somewhere.]

I don't know what a Hyperion is, and I don't recognize those names, but I guess they could be here. We'd need a map to look, though.

[She's trying to think where they could get a map quickly, without getting into an argument with a pirate. Or a shopkeep.]

[If she didn't at least know Olvidia, then it's a safe bet he's somewhere totally different, but he figures he might as well double check.]

So no magic cities floating in the sky or anything? No super powerful magic weapons? Nothing like that?

Well...

[Winry cocked her head.]

There could be powerful weapons, but I haven't seen any yet.

[So cute. So cute but not helpful at all.]

Don't worry about it! I guess I'm just...someplace else. [And there's that pesky despair again. He flops over on his side and pouts.]

Everyone's someplace else. [Winry says with a sigh.] No one knows how we got here; we don't know how to get home.

What?! You too?! What do you mean by everyone? Everyone everyone? [The townspeople shooting them dirty looks kind of look like they belong here.]

[Winry makes a shushing noise at him.]

Not everyone; there are local people.

[She lowers her voice.]

They only tolerate us for a little while, though. Try not to upset them!

[Kon makes a face.] Right. Great. Unfriendly natives. Of course. What are they so mad about? Is there something I should know? Why are we here, anyway?

[Winry sighs, because she doesn't really understand it, either.]

Someone wants us to collect pieces of a red rock, and once all the pieces are collected, we can go home. Maybe. [She spreads her hands.]

The problem is, to get the pieces, we have to be...pirates. And the locals are willing to take pirates' money, but not really help them.

[He considers this for a bit. It's not like being a pirate is all that different from being a hero in an RPG. Lots of travel, taking people's stuff, unhelpful townspeole, going on quests, that sort of thing. Most pirate captains were probably more mentally stable than Ecarlate anyway. This may well be an upgrade in his situation.]

That doesn't sound so bad. So you're a pirate, too? [She wasn't dressed much like a pirate and now he found that kind of disappointing.]

[It's a good thing she can't read your thoughts.]

I'm actually an automail mechanic!

[Not that it probably means anything to you.]

And I'm with The Panthress. I'm Winry Rockbell.

[She offers her hand.]

[He just stares at her. He's more of a gamer than an anime fan, but that's a name that you can't not know. She looks the part, too, and not like a "really good cosplay" sort of looking the part.]

Ah..ahahahaha...ha...you sure are...[Well, that cuts out ANY attempt at flirting, because her boyfriend will DESTROY HIM. He's afraid to even shake her hand now, but he doesn't want her to think he's weird. He makes sure to sneak a quick look around first.]

Kon Hokaze. Um, nice to meet you...

[Winry registers the look Kon's giving her, but she's not sure how to process it. He looks dumbfounded, and that's not an expression she's exactly used to.

Taking his hand, she pumps it enthusiastically.]

It's nice to meet you, Kon!

[ooc: He comes from the show that produced this, so this is all very appropriate somehow.]

[He laughs nervously and takes his hand back as soon as he can. Well. Here he is in Pirate Land with Winry Rockbell. His life has stopped being an MMO and now it's Pirate Kingdom Hearts. He can definitely live with this.]

So, um, Winry, how does one go about starting with this whole pirate thing?

[Bwahahahaahahaha.]

Oh, uh. [Winry puts a finger on her cheek.] Well, first you need to find a boat that will take you on! And you need to learn how to sail.

[She's not at all sure about the pirating thing yet.]

[No one is going to hire him to be a pirate! What do you even put on that resume?! And she said that the natives were going to get mad if he stuck around too long! HOW CAN YOU BE SO CASUAL ABOUT THIS, WINRY ROCKBELL?! IS IT BECAUSE YOUR BOYFRIEND JUST TRANSMUTED YOU A BOAT? HOW IS THAT EVEN FAIR?]

[...and now he's not sure when his internal monologue turned external, but he can tell just by looking at Winry that she must have heard at least part of that.]

...um.

[Hire...?]

[Casual?]

Casual? I'm not casual about this! This - this is important!

[Aaaaand, even though she was talking over you, Kon, she heard that last bit.

Oh, yes, she did.]

B-boy-boyfriend?!?!?!?!?!

[Roars.]

MY BOYFRIEND CAN'T TRANSMUTE ME A BOAT!

[And she realizes that she's just made a spectacle of herself, and Kon, and that people are staring.]

Ooh, I'm sorry! I promise we'll - we'll -

[Grabs Kon by the arm and hauls him along with her, because there is just too much attention near the fountain. When they're about a block away, and there are a few less people, she lets him go to face him, glaring.]

How do you know about Ed?

Because FMA is a Square Enix property and there's a lot of cross-promotion and it was a huge thing with girls for a long time and I've seen pictures of him I wish I could unsee but it WASN'T LIKE I WAS LOOKING FOR THEM they were just there when I searched for pictures of oh God I have to stop talking or you're going to hit me with a wrench. [He slams both hands over his mouth and waits for death.]

[There's one thing Winry gets out of this. One. Thing.]
