Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ NAVY SHIPS! Cannon fire! Guns and explosions! It's a Pirates vs. Navy battle! **HINT: This might be a good one to try this time around... :D

[Henry hadn't meant to run into anyone else, but there weren't many avenues of escape -- and while he can appreciate her martial skill, this woman seems more like she was raised in a mercenary's tavern than a noble house.

He scoffs.]

Is your vanity yet sated? Retreat afore you draw their full force this way.

[A grin. He's turning out to be a good voice of reason, if anything.]

Yeah, you're probably right. That's the last thing I want right now.

What's your name?

[He does take note that she seems to listen to reason, that tips things closer to her reminding him of Sif. It seems to be a game of chance that his name will hold any meaning with those he gives it too. However he doesn't quite think she'll be one to recognize it. Otherwise he'd know what race she is.]

Is it not good manners to introduce one's self first, before asking for another's name?

[He answers back with a teasing note to his voice.]

[It drives Henry to distraction that Kunoichi would rather ignore the existence of the crow's nest to perch on a much more precarious point. Theoretically he understands that she's an assassin like Iamarl, with similar abilities, but there's something very girlish about Kunoichi's personality that brings out his tendency to mother-hen.]

What do you see?

[He calls up from the deck, a tad impatiently.]

Is it not good manners to answer a question when asked?

[She replies in a similarly teasing manner, her silver eyes filled with vibrant amusement. She's good at listening to reason for the most part. Sometimes she listens, and other times she doesn't. Today, she figures its a better idea to listen.]

I'm Helen.

[hisoldtricks]

[Such a human response, but he really cannot see how she is human with those eyes.]

Only if the question is asked with manners in mind.

[He easily counters.]

Loki, is my name.

I suppose I'll remember that for next time.

[She chuckles, her mood lightening a little with their mild teasing. It's a bit of a surprise really. No one that isn't a comrade would ever willingly speak to her.]

Well, it's nice to meet you, Loki. How long have you been stuck here for?

I'm sure the pleasure is mine, Helen.

[Harmless flirting to merely gauge her reaction to it.]

A month or so? Though I have spent most of that away from this island. The Navy has been occupying it, you see.

[He briefly explains. He'd only snuck in to gather a few supplies, since he could roam without being spotted.]

Hmmm....

[She leaned out a bit more, tightening her grip as she did so. Shortly after, she's turning around and hopping back down, taking up one of her usual reporting stances. Even though she was a bit more unprofessional up above, it doesn't mean she can't be professional down below.]

Most likely an island, based on the formations. From what I could see, it looked more like your general landscape, so definitely nothing of the ship variety.

[One can never be too careful if a supposed military has their eyes set on everyone.]

Personally, I think the fresher the better. We got any fresh catch on this ship?

Option A

[This isn't like any of the ships Asami is use to seeing back home, this one seems more outdated to her, but regardless it IS some kind of transportation. So naturally she has to be at the helm of the ship steering it somehow. She gives an over the shoulder look and takes one hand off the wheel to point to the person behind her.

You know, the one who is (suppose to be) holding the map and navigating]

I'm not too sure, but I think we're getting closer. What do you think?

Option B

[Asami just arrived on the island and after searching long and hard for her friends, well anyone familiar really, she decides to finally take a break from her search. Her destination? The fountain. She is sitting down on the edge of it, leaning back a bit and observing a pair of squirrels going at it, to which she eventually tosses a few small pebbles at them.

Yes, this is clearly the most interesting thing going on around her]

OPTION A
[ It's Isla Empieza, the place where all of the newbies show up. Today is no different, although this one doesn't seem all too fazed by showing up in a weird place she doesn't know about.

But hey... those purple clothes, red eyes, and the giant glowing dark spear are probably a sign that she's evil.

Also possibly the fact she's standing on top of a pile of defeated Navy soldiers. ]

I wonder if papa will praise me if I destroy this world for him...?

[ ...Those words are kind of ominous too. A little. ]


OPTION B
[ Okay, non-evil Regina now. Blue eyes, red clothes, and the spear looks like a spear of light now. That's un-brainwashed version!

It's aboard a pirate ship, heading to the next island. Unfortunately, even when she's good, Regina is the textbook definition of "does not pull their own weight." As such, she's slacking off on deck while everybody else is working, leaning over the railing and staring off into the distance. ]

I'm booooored....

Everybody said sailing would be fun, but there's nothing to do. [ Siiigh.

Somebody entertain her, please? ]

[ Choose your own adventure! Tea time, pirates v navy, exploring, whatever floats your boat do it do it! ]

[Ruby thus has the crap scared out of her, as she was REALLY focusing hard on her work... and ends up slapping Crescent Rose in its rifle mode the wrong way, triggering it to flip out into a GIANT SCYTHE and embed itself into the nearest wall.]

[She turns around.]

Oh, you're still in one piece, right?

And why would you do something like that?

[ Zeref isn't going to be losing any sleep over dead Navy soldiers, not after last time. But what she said... it was disturbingly similar to what Hades of Grimoire Heart said he was going to use him for. Even at Zeref's most evil, he never wanted his world destroyed. After the desruction of Sirius Island, he had spent a good, long time thinking about the course his world was taking, and spent many sleepless nights even wondering if humanity had it in them to change. He knew Natsu would survive Acnologia's wrath; if anyone could defend against that, it was Mavis. But one diamond in a sea of muck wasn't enough to make the world that much less dismal of a sight.

Zeref stepped out from behind a building. He didn't turn to look at the girl, or the carnage that glowing spear had wrought. He could care less about the Navy; if they had harmed Madoka, Homura, or Mami, he'd kill them without a second thought. He may still be struggling with the weight of the value of human life, but it had been eroded enough after Sirius Island for him to no longer have any qualms about self-defense, or defending somebody else. ]

This world would be the second to suffer just from my very presence. A seed of chaos sowed in someone else's garden. Why anyone would welcome a chance like that... who is your father?

[ All said still without turning to look at her. ]

[ ...Yeah, the Navy guys probably aren't even.... actually dead..... Regina's not actually that effective of a villain. They're just all knocked out, or possibly grievously-but-not-fatally injured.

Anyway! If Regina's taken aback by somebody suddenly showing up, she doesn't show it. She doesn't hesitate to give an answer to his questions, either. ]

Because that's what my papa wants! [ She takes a moment to walk down off of the pile of Navy, taking care to step of their faces as she does - they make the best footholds. ] He's King Selfishness, and he's already destroyed countless worlds. You should consider yourselves lucky to be the next world on his path.

[ She pauses for a moment as she looks over Zeref, then smiles. ] Your heart's already black. Would you like to be my underling?

[ 'King Selfishness?' That sounds like something someone would call the King of Fiore as an insult, not a title someone would actually be proud of. Well, stranger things have happened in his world. No need to get into the sheer amount of Gonks that have appeared throughout the series. ]

Only one thing is both capable of, and willing, to destroy my world. [ And it's something he doesn't particularly enjoy talking about. Mashima pls to be giving more background on Zeref and Acnologia? ] Humanity may be incapable of learning from the past, but so long as the world exists, it can heal.

[ He visibly flinched as she says his heart as black. His eyes clamped closed. Thanks, he really didn't need that reminder. Zeref may be an emotional wreck and a ticking time bomb after Hades set him off, but... ]

I will never serve the kind of person who made my very existence possible. [ Not even gonna touch that comment about his heart. ]

[ Hey, King Selfishness happens to be his name, thank you very much. Okay, this is getting too meta. ]

I'm sure I can destroy this world, too! After all, without any of those annoying Pretty Cures to get in my way, who's going to stop me? [ After all, if this is another world, and all the Cures are still on Earth, then who will stop her? Especially since she can literally turn the world's population into monsters... ]

Are you sure you won't join me? I'm sure you'd make a fabulous Selfishness.

[Mana sighed as she listened to Regina's complaining]

It can't be all fun and games, you know. But it can still be fun pitching in, right?

Actually, maybe it can! Why don't we make a game of our duties, Regina?

A game? [ ...Well, games are fun, right? And Mana's never steered her wrong before... ]

All right.

What kind of game, though?

[How...how handsome. She's dumbfounded a few moments because the last thing she'd expected was to be faced with someone so noble-looking and dreamy and...totally disgusted with her, it looked like. Good job, Kai, you've done it again. Why didn't you just punch a bear in front of him, too? Then maybe he wouldn't even have bothered talking to you and you could die of shame in peace.

Oh well. Might as well try to salvage things. Maybe he didn't catch the yelling part. Maybe.]

I'm really sorry. Sometimes i--[No! "Sometimes it just happens" is the wrong thing to say now!] --I lose sight of my surroundings. I've never been anywhere like this before.

[That sounded okay, right? He wasn't going to think she was weird, right? If she just stepped back a little and listened to what he said about retreating, he'd forgive the rest, right?]

'Pretty Cures?' [ He's heard that term used before over the journals. Chances are, they probably are, in fact, here, even if he doesn't exactly know what a Pretty Cure is. ]

I have no interest in destroying a world I have nothing to do with. I've done enough damage to my own world.

[ Regina seems to pout for a moment. Well, so much for gaining a lackey. Now who was going to fetch her cake and yakisoba and takoyaki-minus-tako when she was hungry?

That Selfish Trio better hurry up and follow her here. ]

Fiiiiine. I don't need your help to destroy this place anyway.

[ She pauses for a moment, tapping a finger on her cheek as if in thought. ]

Although with a heart like yours, making a Selfishness wouldn't even be hard at all.

I'll be taking that heart of yours, then!

[ She practically dances back a few steps.... and charges up a ball of dark energy on her finger. ]

I'll grant you a fabulous Selfishness!

[ Stopping her would probably be wise. Because who the hell knows what kind of monster Zeref's heart would make. ]

[Arches both eyebrows.] Riiiight.

Yeah! It is. My Mum always says to keep a bottle around for emergencies. [And while that would normally be rubbish, at least it has its uses.]

So what kind of a world are you from? [Wee doing nails!]
