Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! [His dismissal of having her hear the whole song didn't stop her from wanting to. What was a bard without a little variety?

She looked at the man Shepard pointed to before smiling slightly and turning back to look at her table mate.]

Oh, I'm sure Messere Lefty was a wonderful piano player... before the terrible accident that cost him his hand.

[She tried to look serious, but didn't stop some of her amusement from showing.]

*It occurred to Adol that it was a rare person who could be that relaxed in a new place without even knowing how you got here.* I guess they took a bunch of us here. What country are you from?

*Well, that was one way to get a lay of the land. Adol can't really climb because of his armor.* Do you see anything from up there?

[Still wiping her mouth and wondering if there's just something wrong with how she set her taste synapses, she's quick to push it towards that voice]

Ugh, you can have it...

[...wait those fingers don't seem normal]

[At the end of the pier where a truly massive ship is docked, there's a blue haired girl who looks, more than anything, irritated about her situation. Rather than checking the journal or anything, she's rather intently staring into a space, a strangely electronic beeping noise coming from her - until she notices Haruhi's approach]

Hm? Oh, were you talking to me?

There was NO WAY to say the name while looking cool and collected! Maybe... if he only said the Japanese version of the name it would work? ]

[Makoto looks down at Adol, then breaks into a crooked grin. She holds one hand above her eyes as a makeshift sunshade and peers off into the distance. There's not a lot to see, really. But that salty tang to the wind is definitely interesting. There must be a port somewhere nearby. And the sea.]

Nope! The town's pretty small, all things considered. But isn't this exciting? It's like an adventure out of a book!

[She hops down from the statue, clapping her hands together to clear some green smudges off of her palms.]

Let me guess. You're not really sure how you got here either, right? That makes two of us.

[Oops. Pale blue cat-slit eyes blinked at Naruto and she nodded slightly.]

Ah, my apologies. I should have been more aware of where he'd land.

[The remaining drunk started stammering and backing away, muttering the word 'witchcraft!' over and over much to Bridget's disgust.]

You really think the only way a woman can lay you out is through witchcraft? You're so drunk right now even a baby could knock you over.

[And after a slight pause, Bridget rolled her eyes. Now she remembered why she didn't like drunk minds.]

And please stop thinking that, I already need a bath.

I'm pretty sure that usually excludes people from drinking things.

[WHAT IS GOING ON HERE]

Takao. And how can you be here if you're dead?

[sorry she comes from a land of SCIENCE and did not cover much fiction in her research]

[Bridget glanced back with a small, wry smile.]

I admit I'm a little jealous. Though I suppose it's difficult to wear purple...

[But that train of thought could be put on hold for now.]

Anyways. I've never seen a paper journal do anything like that, but the concept of sharing communications over a network of some kind isn't new to me. The book isn't writing itself, it's showing what other people are writing in their own journals.

[Naruto doesn't really know what thoughts she's talking about but if this guy is bothering her, then there's no reason to let that happen. He stepped in front of him, giving him a fierce look.]

Come on, she said you should move on. If you don't go, you're going to get hurt.

[Not necessarily by him, either.]

[Bridget didn't let the bit of startled puzzlement show when the kid she'd nearly hit with the first wall of muscle suddenly stepped in as well. Backing her up? He was the first. Everyone else was either too afraid of the muscles or thought the same thing about her as they were trying to act on.

Huh. Two blue-eyed blonds, the guy must have figured them for siblings since he spit out something about their relationship that was both incestuous and physically impossible before turning and stalking away.]

So, what would you have done if he'd taken that swing?

[Bridget glanced over at Naruto curiously and in no way ruffled by the encounter. But this one... Oh, she was growing more and more curious by the second.]

I'm just wondering if you would have stopped him or me.

Oh, little old me? I'm just a ghost. Fell off a ship and drowned, never got over it.

[A dismissive wave of her hand, like it's no big deal. Except that it kind of is. But she's talking about it, see? She's trying!]

My turn for a question. How'd you end up here?

[Oh but you're forgetting... Haruka is Japanese. She knows what that means]

Kitten's House! [She couldn't help smiling at the name] That's so cute! [If didn't really bring flowers to mind though.... but the name coupled with knowing it was a florist shop conjured up a really quaint image. The decor must match the adorable little name somehow.]

I- hope I won't. [... there were about 6 vocalist back home to choose from and how was she supposed to please all of them. Rejecting them might mean instant failure for them...]

Nah. I wasn't much of a studier when I was a student. [She didn't get into the Military Academy for her book smarts, that's for sure.]

Shipwrecked? But I thought that- [Was there some kind of mistake in the transfer process back across the Boundary? Makoto's face falls for a second at the thought. If this isn't home, then Tsubaki and Noel aren't here. They're still in danger. Except now she can't reach them.]

-Hey, listen, you didn't see a girl in blue clothes running around, did you?

I didn't know ghosts were real.

[PROCESSING... although definitely not realizing if you're hung up about something to become a ghost, it's probably a big deal]

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I can't connect to the Joint Tactical Network or hack into even basic GPS... or rather, everything around me is telling me those sorts of things don't even exist in this place.

[Naruto blinks at her, tilting his head a bit, thinking about it.]

Well, if he swung at me as drunk as he is, it wouldn't take much to get him on the ground.

If he went after you, I'd have backed you up, but I don't think you would have needed it.

[He grins and shrugs, tugging at his jacket. It's kind of warmer here. He unzips it about halfway. Aside from a green pendant, there's not much to see but a black shirt.]

People get stupid when they drink.

True, though the drunker they get the more clever and brave they feel. And the worse they feel in the morning.

[That earned him a slightly warmer smile at least, but not enough to show her unmistakable longer canines. She liked people who didn't back away from a bully even if they might have to get some bones set later.

A zipper... Someone else likely far from home since zippers came a few hundred years after the age of sailing.]

Though I must admit I would have gotten to him first either way. Bridget Frostheart, recently arrived but already tired of the ambiance. It's been a long time since anyone mistook me for having a price on my bed...

[He grins and raises his hands behind his head in a carefree gesture.]

I am Uzumaki Naruto-ttebayo! I just got here too, but I'm starving and I could use some food. I was looking to see if they had a ramen stall.

Ramen, is it? It's a bit doubtful. This place is set at least a hundred or so years before ramen was even popular in Japan much less anywhere else. If anyone actually knows how to make it, they're probably off on a ship somewhere.

[Though... Bridget glanced around thoughtfully and crossed her arms. Well, it WAS a port town.]

If you know how to make it yourself you could probably find most of the ingredients as long as you're willing to substitute a few things.

[Aww, this place is terrible! No ramen? He sighs.]

Nah, I don't know how to make it, I usually just eat at a stall. I can make instant ramen though. I guess I'll have to find something else.
