See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

The hair again. She tugs at it as it's mentioned, looking self-conscious. It's hard to do ninja things when you're as noticeable as Naruto with his orange jumpsuit. It had never stopped her before but she figures now might be a good time to practice her transformation jutsus when she wants to try and be a LITTLE more stealthy.
Her shoulders square, not really caring about the boiling rum. It isn't TOO strange when people shoot giant fireballs out of their mouths sometimes where she's from.]
I wouldn't-- [nevermind]
I was hoping there's someone here who knows more about this place than I do so I could get some answers. I'd ask directly, but I get the feeling I'm already not very well-received.

It hardly matters what you intend, the men here have alcohol in the system and a reason to be suspicious. They think I'm either a bored show-wife looking for a real man or a woman with a price on my bed. But they don't know anything you'd find useful.
no subject
But she can't let this go to waste.]
Do you?
no subject
[Bridget's slit-pupiled eyes turned a bit playful. Oh dear... This kitten was so tempting to tease. She let the moment hang for a little bit and then actually smiled.]
Hardly. It's been a while since I've carried my swords and bow on a regular basis so I arrived without much in the way of useful tools. Now that I have some coin, I thought I'd fix that oversight and go find the people who really know what's going on.
no subject
She reminds her a bit of Ino -- flirty and a take charge sort of personality.]
Could I join you? Two heads are better than one, right?
I'm Sakura.
no subject
I don't mind, the name's Bridget. Just let me collect my journal...
[The glass of rum was left unsipped as she stood, all imposing five feet of her, and went over to the bartender. A small coin from her winnings and he handed her a book alarmingly similar to Sakura's.]
no subject
Sakura smiles. And she probably would have followed her anyway, just from a distance. This just made things easier.]
Nice to meet you, Bridget.
[When they stand side by side, Sakura is only a couple inches taller at 5'3". While she doesn't look dangerous and more cute than deadly, Sakura could probably knock out every sloppy pirate in this pub with one hand tied behind her back.
But her eyes seemed to have locked on the identical book and she tugs hers out of her back pouch looking down at it.]
I have the same journal.
[What does THAT mean?]
no subject
At the comment, she turned glanced towards Sakura's book. It meant they were SOULMATES!!!!!sparkles! But not really.]
Hm, I suspected as much. None of the people who were born or live here have one. Have you looked through it all yet?
no subject
Um, no, not really. It was just nearby me and I decided to bring it along.
... Should I?
no subject
Only if you want to figure out who might know what's going on. I'm not exactly sure what connects them, but as far as I can tell all of these journals are connected to each other no matter how far apart they are. What someone else writes in their journal, everyone else with a journal can read it.
[Bridget starts walking again, taking the time to attempt to poke Sakura's cheek as she passes but not expecting to succeed. Ah well, at least they may as well head out to somewhere Bridget can buy sharp, pointy objects as they talk.]
Which reminds me, is there something about you that might make you worth kidnapping?
no subject
She's actually looking down at the journal with a furrowed brow so she DOES succeed since she's not paying attention. And the action didn't have killing intent so she doesn't dodge it. There's a couple blinks at the poke and then she rubs her cheek.]
The pink hair isn't enough?
[She quips and follows Bridget, finally opening the journal to a random page.
It's... writing in itself.
What. Just going to stare in awe at it.]
no subject
Well, it would be for myself. If someone was born with that color where I came from there would be a massive convention of doctors and scientists. Not to mention anyone willing to do some black market dealing. Even someone able to do some genetic manipulation needs some sort of base gene for pink hair. Pink, blue, green, purple... those aren't uncommon with kids, but it's all dyed.
[Bridget really hoped there would be someplace open at this time of evening. Not that she was in a rush, setting up a slow enough pace that Sakura could flip through the journal as they went.]
no subject
Or someone performing a jutsu. Offhand she replies;]
Yes, it's natural. [And then back to what she's REALLY worried about.]
Is the journal... supposed to write itself?
no subject
I admit I'm a little jealous. Though I suppose it's difficult to wear purple...
[But that train of thought could be put on hold for now.]
Anyways. I've never seen a paper journal do anything like that, but the concept of sharing communications over a network of some kind isn't new to me. The book isn't writing itself, it's showing what other people are writing in their own journals.
no subject
Or green flak jacket and black shirt now.]
Amazing...
[She sounds as in awe as she looks, eyes glancing back down at the, at first glance, unremarkable little book.]
Yes, communicating over a broadcast isn't new to me either. But we use headsets and walkie talkies or jutsu. This is a very high level of technology. [Or... something else.] And very useful. Can anybody read anything you write?
[She pulls a pen from her pouch that she had snatched at the bar and writes a 'Hello?' in it.]
no subject
Not really. It's just like a walkie but with writing as well as sound. I'm a little disappointed there isn't video yet but that took a good thirty or so years even in a place that didn't rely on rum to make water safe to drink.
[Bridget spotted a potential store and slowed to a stop so she could take a look through the little window.]
no subject
She's staring down at the journal waiting for a response but when nothing comes immediately, her focus is back on Bridget.]
You can record sound with this?
[This would need a lot of studying later, if she's going to use it.]
I can't believe something that's normally simple and common is able to act as a communicator, with writing and sound. What is it powered by?
[where batteries]
