See you during the application round!
♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?
♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!
♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!
♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!
♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

Korra and Asami are okay, I didn't stick around to check the rest. If anyone's hurt too bad, Korra can handle it.
[At least he thinks she can. The wind picks up in their sail and Mako sinks down to guide the rudder.]
We're going to have to get used to this kind of thing happening every now and then. [From one rough life to the next. But at least they can watch each other's back like usual.]
Living on a ship, fighting the navy, using swords, guns. None of it feels right.
what is this mysterious shutting up that Bolin's never heard of...
Then he pulls a piece of seaweed out of his sock and shudders, and he figures, yeah, okay, he's not exactly standing on firm ground when it comes to everything out here, either. This is a crazy world. So he raises his hands, seaweed and all (because hello, free soup ingredient), in an exaggerated shrug. ]
But I'm gonna say that running into the Spirit World when we might get trapped there with the representation of all the world's greatest darkness and evil felt way less right? Seriously. You can't top those levels of crazy. And we've still got Korra, who's only, y'know, a really awesome Avatar. Plus Asami's here, which I bet means we all only get arrested half as much and solve twice the problems, so that's great. As long as you try not to date one of them and kiss the other one at the same time. Again. And you've all got ol' Nuktuk on your side, [ at which point he thumps his chest twice, ] and we've all got you.
I mean, you put the two of us together and we can make it through anything, but the whole Team Avatar? [ Psh. ] Forget about it. Gem restored, world saved. Or... uh. Pirates who wanna get home, saved.

A brief, withering glare is all Bolin gets at the mention of his past romantic problems.
That he did bring upon himself.]It’s not that simple, Bolin.
[But he couldn’t argue that having all four of them does improve their chances. And makes him less homesick, especially with his brother here.]
There are pirates that can do more than Team Avatar can put together, and not all of them are in it to help the others. [Mako’s not the biggest jerk out of all the outsiders, amazingly.] If they get the gem first…
[But that’s not as important as them actually catching up to the Sun.]

Bolin is infinitely glad that his brother's around. He loves Mako more than just about anything or anyone, and he's glad that they've got someone around who's good at keeping his head under pressure, and at thinking about the important, practical stuff for tomorrow, so that Bolin doesn't have to think about all that as much and mess up calling the shots, which would just kind of make more work for Mako because he'd have to follow behind him and fix everything, probably. But talk about your negativity to work with. Even Eska was still a romantic at heart.
... maybe a little too much of a romantic, but still a romantic. ]

But you're right, Bolin. [Don't make a big deal of it, please, bro. He starts tying the lowering ropes to each side of the sailboat.] We have a chance with all four of us here. If there's a way to get home, we'll figure it out.
[He has his doubts that the gem is the only way home. They got here without one, then they have to be able to leave that same way.]
And you're still getting checked up to see if you caught something. [Aside from seaweed.]

Impossible and to be disregarded. Because he's right. He has no proof to show Korra or Asami in the future, perhaps, but he has this moment and that's obviously what matters. More important, perhaps, is the generally positive statement that came out of Mako's mouth. Coerced, yet still more appealing to the senses than a naysay. HE'LL TAKE IT. ]
Ha! Gotcha! You said something and it wasn't a complete downer, Mako! I'm so proud. [ Look at you, all grown up and giving in to your kid brother instead of arguing your reasonable and valid point. ] Come on. Bring it in for the positivity hug. Don't be shy!
[ Bolin's aware, at least, that it is a valid point. He'd just rather fling his arms open, flick some water in Mako's general direction in the process, and let something less terrifying hang over his brother's head for a minute instead of deeply considering the possibilities himself. AFter all, the threat of the dripping wet hug is always all too real. ]

Bolin-
[Too late. He's in a sopping wet embrace from his brother as the sailboat's hoisted up to the ship. Not how expected this small rescue to end, but all in all; he has his brother back instead of thinking of him being lost at sea.
There's a good ten seconds, because he knows Bolin won't let go until he acknowledges at least something, before he finally says.]
Okay. You got me. [Just drag it out of him at the most inopportune time...]
Dry clothes, check up and then a refresher on tying knots. [So that big brothers don't flip out in the future and go into mother hen mode.]

I can live with that. Because I bet I'm completely not sick and we won't have to rescue anybody else today, either. [ Give it a few days. Ocean's rude as hell. ] Thanks for that, by the way. Not a huge fan of the clutches of the briny deep. Go figure.
