♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

A loyalist?

[it's not an uncommon answer, generally speaking. But it's not really an answer, either. For some people, it's true, but for most, he's found, it's filler behind true intention.]

You have no country here. [though this conversation might very well lead into philosophical debates. Probably not but it didn't seem worth the effort in this time and place] Mah, well, forget it... I don't intend to challenge the Navy here, so if you're fine with that I suppose we can sail together.

And given my choice, sir, I wouldn't sail here. As you said -- I have no country, and I've... little desire to be at sea again.

But I don't have that option. [And that is the cause of no small amount of anxiety for him, honestly. He has to go back to the sea. Has to risk that curse again.] So, I need a ship.

I can cook and sail, sir, and navigate with fair accuracy. If you'll have me, you'll find me a good hand.
