Welcome to your monthly Test Drive for high_seas! Here is where new players can test out their characters' voices, old players can try out new muses, and everyone can help each other get some threads for their applications! Feel free to use one of the prompts below, or come up with something on your own! Comment around, have fun, and remember that any CR formed here does not carry over to the game!

♦ So you're new to this world and have just woken up in the Town Square. How do you react? What do you do?

♦ You're lost at sea. Maybe you got separated from your crew. Or perhaps you're on an abandoned island. You need help!

♦ "Pirates off the starboard bow!" It's an enemy ship! Attack!!

♦ You and your crew are hanging out on your ship. Just another day at sea!

♦ "LAND, HO!" Hey look, a new island! How about you go explore it? Tell us what you find!

♦ Arrr, here be buried treasure, but not all that glitters is gold! Will ye be telling your mateys what ye found, or keeping it for yourselves?

Mine doesn't either, so get used to it. It took me months to even get a paltry bounty, it's sad.

[stretches, lacing his fingers behind his head and kicking one boot over the other]

There's a thing in the book about shards of a jewel and Davy Jones. It's all true, even if it reads like a fairy tale. Most of us are trying to put this busted jewel back together in order to wish ourselves home, but that's the shortest of short answers. Jones himself isn't in any hurry to help us do that, so don't count on that.

There's a certain romanticism and excitement to being one of the most wanted men on Earth, I think.

Hm...[Johnny leans against a wall in the shade, crooking a finger under his chin as he ponders the information.]...Well, I suppose that makes sense, given the nature of the man. Kidnappers aren't really the type to be trusted.

Mm. [oho, this guy gets it. Not bad.] Yeah, there sure is. You don't realize you miss it until it's gone.

[he glances up at the man] ...far as we know, that's the only way for anyone to get out of here, so there's that. We're pirates, though, so most of us go about it our own ways.

The only way to get out, hm? Who was it who told you this?

...dunno, really. It's kind of been common knowledge around us outworlders for a while. It's sort of the conclusion you come to when no other ideas come up.

[shrugs noncommittally, since it's not his place to do the hard thinking and research and theorizing. That's for people like Robin. He's just here to hit things with swords.]

I find it hard to believe there's just one way to do anything, myself.

If you want to hunt one down, be my guest. Hell, if it gets us home faster, I'm all for it. But that ain't my job.

I'm not that kind of guy. [smirks to himself] I'm not a strategist, I'm a swordsman. Where Luffy goes, I follow, there's not much else to it.

[skyfaring_swordsman]

Ah, I see. I prefer to be more well-rounded.

[yourotherleft]

To each his own. [it's entirely casual, no judgment at all. If that's how he wants it, he's welcome.]

The doubloons in your pocket aren't enough to last forever, though. If you want more, taking to the seas is the only way.

I'll certainly miss sailing the clouds, but I suppose I'll have to make the best of it.

Clouds, huh? For real?

Actually, you might not have to. There's cloud islands floating here, during the summer. Been to a couple, they're not bad.]

Of course. I did mention that I was Captain of the Jellyfish Air Pirates, did I not?

How do you get between them with such primitive ships?

[yourotherleft]

[So he sort of mentally skimmed over the 'Air' part...]

Every ship here has a Nav thingy, it lets you jump from ship to ship. They work to get the ships into the clouds, dunno how but. That's the way of it.

...don't knock the ships, though. They're more than enough for the sea, and then some.

Well, at least this land doesn't seem to have Gears in it. I suppose thick wood will hold up enough to survive.

[his brow twitches curiously, but he's not curious enough to ask. The last gears he saw were on that steampunk island...]

They're sturdy enough, more than you'd think. Merrily's been holding strong even with my idiot captain occasionally putting holes in the deck, they're tougher than they look.

To put things on another track, I must admit my curiosity. I see three swords. How do you use them all?

[he smirks widely]

You can't think of any way to hold a third sword? I could show you, but I don't usually bring them all out unless the challenge is worthy enough.

Well, the best way to learn is by witnessing. I don't mind a quick spar.

[yourotherleft]

[he glances up again, gives Johnny a sort of appraising once-over (with haki, though it's impossible to tell), and then pushes himself to his feet.]

Beats lounging around here. Shitty place for a nap. C'mon...I don't want to damage the tavern district.

[there's places nearer the harbor where they can let loose, after all.]

Your scar must have quite the story behind it.

[Johnny follows along, glad that his hangover is finally clearing away.]

Which one? I got a few.

[though, yes, he's wearing his shirt unbuttoned so everyone can see the massive one on his chest. All the time.]

I find the one on the eye the most interesting. Your depth perception must have taken a hit you had to overcome.

[he definitely sobers, with a small grunt. He's not as proud of that one.]

It was like learning to fight all over again. It's only been like this a couple years, though.
